Shetland is made up of hundreds islands but just 15 are inhabited. The population of Shetland is approx 23,000 peoples. The length of Shetland is approx 90 miles (145 km). Shetland is situated across 60th line of Latitude North so Shetland is as high as Alaska and Canada and Russia, but because of the Gulf Stream the weather is not extreme. Shetlands remoteness is one of its biggest appeals, there are views you could only find in Shetland from its beautiful cliffs, lovely heather covered hills, its small streams and burns another is the beaches that are small and remote. |
Also Shetland has lots of exciting wildlife all over the isles from common seals, otters, and whales and dolphins and not for getting the puffin. Shetland has a lot of different resources from oil and gas found near Shetland in the 1970s. Fishing and sheep farming play big parts in Shetland today. Shetland has many different archaeological sites around the isles the more notable sites are Jarlshof, Old Scatness and Mousa Broch.
